Did you know that April is National Poetry Month in Canada? National Poetry Month was created in Canada in April 1998 by the League of Canadian Poets. National Poetry Month is all about bringing together publishers, libraries, schools, booksellers and poets from across the country to celebrate poetry and the importance of poetry in Canadian culture. 2014 is the 16th anniversary of Poetry Month in Canada! Poetry month works to bring poetry to a wider audience, especially among young people, and to increase the popularity of Canadian poets, while encouraging sales of Canadian poetry books. Poetry Month inspires people to read, write and teach others about Canadian poetry. My favorite Canadian poet is Shane Koyczan, who does amazing spoken word poetry. I highly recommend that you look him up on YouTube. His words are amazing, and the way he speaks will touch your soul whether or not you are Canadian.
